ADAPTOGENIC MUSHROOMS & THEIR BENEFITS ON THE BODY

Chaga 

The Chaga mushroom is considered to be the “King” of mushrooms. This unique mushroom is found growing on living birch trees in Russia, Canada, and Siberia. It is most famous for it’s antioxidant super power and having the abilities to kill free radicals while healing the body.

Chaga has been used in traditional medicine in Eastern Europe for a variety of health problems. Due to the high concentration of betulinic acid, Chaga mushrooms are known to effectively reduce tumour size. Therefore helping to combat the spread of certain cancers.

Inflammation is linked to almost every chronic auto immune issue, a study conducted by the Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology found that Chaga mushrooms are able to reduce pro-inflammatory oxide and cyclooxyrgenase in the body. The world journal of Gastroenterology research shows that certain cancers of the liver, lung, and brain were decreased with Chaga.

Shitake


A native mushroom to East Asia, the Shitake mushroom is known for it’s anti cancer benefits. One Japanese study from the Journal of Cancer Research found that mice given shiitake mushroom extract, scientists saw that the tumour size was shrinking with no signs of toxicity. There was also studies found that Shitake mushrooms are beneficial for the cardiovascular system, preventing heart disease and lowering cholesterol.

Himematsutake

Himematsutake Is a fungus, originated from Brazil and grows in China, and Japan. This magic mushroom is primarily used  for medicine. This magic mushroom combat cancer cells and also contains a special protein called Blazein, which has the ability to kill cancer cells.

Lion’s Mane

Lion’s Mane is best known for its neurological benefits. Those who struggle with memory loss, brain fog, or other brain disorders can benefit from this magic mushroom. It is also beneficial for treating depression and anxiety.

Many studies found that Lion’s Mane increases cognitive performance.

A small scale study published by Pubmed found that 250mg tablets containing 96% mushroom powder taken 3x/day for 16 weeks, increased scores on a cognitive test compared to the placebo group.

Lions Mane contains nerve growth factors (NGF’s) which have the ability to regenerate and protect brain tissue.

Turkey Tail

Commonly called Turkey Tail due to its striking colours, Turkey Tail has been used around the world for centuries to treat various conditions. Turkey tail is known to help with SIBO and Candida overgrowth because it contains probiotics which nourish helpful bacteria.  Turkey tail is packed with tons of antioxidants, this can inhibit and reduce damage caused by oxidative stress. Turkey Tail also contains immune-boosting polysaccharopeptides which lowers inflammation and helps to boot immunity. 

Cordyceps

Also known as the anti aging mushroom!

Cordyceps decrease the pro inflammatory monoamine oxidase and lipid peroxidation which causes us to age. A study conducted from Pubmed on the anti-aging effects of Cordycep extract, showed that there was a dramatical increase in powerhouse antioxidants known as superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase.

The Reishi mushroom is linked to lowering the risk of type 2 diabetes, the polysaccharides and triterpenes in Reishi extracts decrease excessive fat storage in people struggling with weight gain and blood sugar issues.

Reishi Recipe:

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add 1 tbsp Reishi pieces.

Simmer for 2 hours, remove from heat, cool and add raw honey or maple syrup to taste.

Adding additional herbs or spices is recommended such as cinnamon, ginger, and cocoa powder. 

 

Reishi must be boiled alongside with the Chaga mushroom to render its beneficial properties to be absorbed.
